routes 612 & 685
Just briefly:
The Wallington journeys started on the 27th March 1993 under the number 412, operated by Big Bus using 2 M-type MCW Metrobus vehicles. Type changed to Leyland Olympians by 9th October the same year. The Hamsey Green journeys appeared on the 5th September 1994 going as far as Purley but only on the PM hours.
Then at the start of 1995 on the 3rd January, the Wallington journeys finally gained a number.... 612. And at the same time the Hamsey Green journeys were diverted to go Croydon instead of Purley. 29 August 1998 meant the 412 to never receive double deck workings again. As the Hamsey Green journeys also gained a number.. 685. Funnily enough the PVR of 412's SDO stayed 2 when the Wallington journeys were withdrawn (from 412). Then on the 2nd September 2003, the main service was withdrawn between Croydon and Sanderstead with a journey introduced from Hamsey Green to Selsdon Sainsbury's. Thirteen days later the main service was extended from Sanderstead to Selsdon Sainsbury's.
It was on the 1st September 2008 that route 685 was born off the 612, when Metrobus acquired the 612.
Current PVR of route 612 is 2 and 685 is 1. (Noting that 685 only runs in the PM hours)
- Route 612 was the renumbering of the Selsdon-Wallington journeys on 412
- Route 612 was also the renumbering of the Selsdon-Hamsey Green journeys on 412
- Route 685 was the renumbering of the Selsdon-Hamsey Green journeys on 612
